\nOne hundred and ten years ago, Chinese revolutionaries represented by Dr. Sun Yat-sen stunned the world when they launched the Revolution of 1911. They brought down the Qing government, ended the absolute monarchy that had ruled China for thousands of years, and paved the way for the profound social changes that have taken place in modern China. This was a great and arduous exploration, undertaken by the Chinese people and Chinese progressives in a bid to achieve national independence and the people\u2019s liberation.<\/span>
\n <\/span>

\nThis year marks the 110th anniversary of the Revolution of 1911 and the centenary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and the Chinese people are striding with confidence toward the second centenary goal of building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects. On this special occasion, we gather here to commemorate the historic exploits of revolutionary pioneers like Dr. Sun Yat-sen, to emulate and carry forward their lofty spirit of working with unshakable resolve to revitalize China, and to inspire and rally the sons and daughters of the Chinese nation at home and abroad to work together to realize the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.<\/span>

\nThe Revolution of 1911, with its deep social and historical roots, was an inevitable product of the intensifying social conflicts and tenacious struggles of the Chinese people in modern China. Over more than 5,000 years of history, the great and ancient Chinese nation made indelible contributions to human civilization. But after the Opium War of 1840, Western powers came to act with impunity on Chinese lands, and feudal rulers were rendered weak and ineffectual. Gradually, China was reduced to a semi-colonial and semi-feudal society. With our country humiliated, our people subjected to great pain, and our civilization plunged into darkness, the Chinese people and nation suffered greater ravages than ever before. The heroic Chinese people, however, did not admit defeat. They kept fighting and exploring new ways to save the nation, and they demonstrated an unbending will and defiance in the face of brutality.<\/span>

\n\u4ece\u90a3\u65f6\u8d77\uff0c\u5b9e\u73b0\u4e2d\u534e\u6c11\u65cf\u4f1f\u5927\u590d\u5174\u5c31\u6210\u4e3a\u4e2d\u534e\u6c11\u65cf\u6700\u4f1f\u5927\u7684\u68a6\u60f3\u3002<\/span>
\nSince that time, national rejuvenation has been the greatest dream of the Chinese people.<\/span>

\n\u5b59\u4e2d\u5c71\u5148\u751f\u662f\u4f1f\u5927\u7684\u6c11\u65cf\u82f1\u96c4\u3001\u4f1f\u5927\u7684\u7231\u56fd\u4e3b\u4e49\u8005\u3001\u4e2d\u56fd\u6c11\u4e3b\u9769\u547d\u7684\u4f1f\u5927\u5148\u9a71\u3002\u5b59\u4e2d\u5c71\u5148\u751f\u5927\u58f0\u75be\u547c\u201c\u4e9f\u62ef\u65af\u6c11\u4e8e\u6c34\u706b\uff0c\u5207\u6276\u5927\u53a6\u4e4b\u5c06\u503e\u201d\uff0c\u9ad8\u626c\u53cd\u5bf9\u5c01\u5efa\u4e13\u5236\u7edf\u6cbb\u7684\u6597\u4e89\u65d7\u5e1c\uff0c\u63d0\u51fa\u6c11\u65cf\u3001\u6c11\u6743\u3001\u6c11\u751f\u7684\u4e09\u6c11\u4e3b\u4e49\u653f\u6cbb\u7eb2\u9886\uff0c\u7387\u5148\u53d1\u51fa\u201c\u632f\u5174\u4e2d\u534e\u201d\u7684\u5450\u558a\u3002\u5728\u5b59\u4e2d\u5c71\u5148\u751f\u9886\u5bfc\u548c\u5f71\u54cd\u4e0b\uff0c\u5927\u6279\u9769\u547d\u515a\u4eba\u548c\u65e0\u6570\u7231\u56fd\u5fd7\u58eb\u96c6\u805a\u5728\u632f\u5174\u4e2d\u534e\u65d7\u5e1c\u4e4b\u4e0b\uff0c\u5e7f\u6cdb\u4f20\u64ad\u9769\u547d\u601d\u60f3\uff0c\u79ef\u6781\u5174\u8d77\u8fdb\u6b65\u6d6a\u6f6e\uff0c\u8fde\u7eed\u53d1\u52a8\u6b66\u88c5\u8d77\u4e49\uff0c\u63a8\u52a8\u4e86\u9769\u547d\u5927\u52bf\u7684\u5f62\u6210\u3002<\/span>
\nDr. Sun Yat-sen was a great national hero, a great patriot, and a great pioneer of China\u2019s democratic revolution. He called out to \u201csave our people from misery and prop up our tottering country without delay.\u201d He held high the banner of struggle against feudal autocracy and put forward the political program based on the Three People\u2019s Principles of nationalism, democracy, and people\u2019s livelihood. And he was the first to call for \u201cthe revitalization of China.\u201d Under his leadership and influence, large numbers of revolutionaries and countless dedicated patriots rallied under the banner of revitalizing China. They spread revolutionary ideas far and wide, unleashed the tide of progress, and launched a series of armed uprisings, generating an unstoppable wave of revolution.<\/span>

\n1911\u5e7410\u670810\u65e5\uff0c\u6b66\u660c\u57ce\u5934\u67aa\u58f0\u4e00\u54cd\uff0c\u62c9\u5f00\u4e86\u4e2d\u56fd\u5b8c\u5168\u610f\u4e49\u4e0a\u7684\u8fd1\u4ee3\u6c11\u65cf\u6c11\u4e3b\u9769\u547d\u7684\u5e8f\u5e55\u3002\u8f9b\u4ea5\u9769\u547d\u6781\u5927\u4fc3\u8fdb\u4e86\u4e2d\u534e\u6c11\u65cf\u7684\u601d\u60f3\u89e3\u653e\uff0c\u4f20\u64ad\u4e86\u6c11\u4e3b\u5171\u548c\u7684\u7406\u5ff5\uff0c\u6253\u5f00\u4e86\u4e2d\u56fd\u8fdb\u6b65\u6f6e\u6d41\u7684\u95f8\u95e8\uff0c\u64bc\u52a8\u4e86\u53cd\u52a8\u7edf\u6cbb\u79e9\u5e8f\u7684\u6839\u57fa\uff0c\u5728\u4e2d\u534e\u5927\u5730\u4e0a\u5efa\u7acb\u8d77\u4e9a\u6d32\u7b2c\u4e00\u4e2a\u5171\u548c\u5236\u56fd\u5bb6\uff0c\u4ee5\u5de8\u5927\u7684\u9707\u64bc\u529b\u548c\u6df1\u523b\u7684\u5f71\u54cd\u529b\u63a8\u52a8\u4e86\u4e2d\u56fd\u793e\u4f1a\u53d8\u9769\uff0c\u4e3a\u5b9e\u73b0\u4e2d\u534e\u6c11\u65cf\u4f1f\u5927\u590d\u5174\u63a2\u7d22\u4e86\u9053\u8def\u3002<\/span>
\nOn October 10, 1911, gunfire in Wuchang City sounded the start of a true national democratic revolution in modern China. The Revolution of 1911 helped to greatly liberate the thinking of the Chinese people, spread the ideas of democracy and republicanism, and opened the floodgates for progress in China. It shook the very foundations of reactionary rule and brought about the establishment of a republic on Chinese soil, the first of its kind in Asia. With tremendous power and profound influence, the Revolution of 1911 triggered a social transformation in China and led to the search for a path to national rejuvenation.<\/span>

\n\u5b59\u4e2d\u5c71\u5148\u751f\u548c\u8f9b\u4ea5\u9769\u547d\u5148\u9a71\u4e3a\u4e2d\u534e\u6c11\u65cf\u5efa\u7acb\u7684\u5386\u53f2\u529f\u7ee9\u5f6a\u70b3\u5343\u79cb\uff01\u5728\u8f9b\u4ea5\u9769\u547d\u4e2d\u82f1\u52c7\u594b\u6597\u548c\u58ee\u70c8\u727a\u7272\u7684\u5fd7\u58eb\u4eec\u540d\u5782\u9752\u53f2\uff01\u8f9b\u4ea5\u9769\u547d\u6c38\u8fdc\u662f\u4e2d\u534e\u6c11\u65cf\u4f1f\u5927\u590d\u5174\u5f81\u7a0b\u4e0a\u4e00\u5ea7\u5dcd\u7136\u5c79\u7acb\u7684\u91cc\u7a0b\u7891\uff01<\/span>

\nHistory spirals upward, advancing in waves of progress. Constrained by the historical and social conditions of the time, and lacking the right path and leading force to determine the future of the country, the Revolution of 1911 could not change the semi-colonial and semi-feudal nature of Chinese society; it could not alter the bitter fate of the Chinese people; and it could not accomplish the historic missions of national independence and the people\u2019s liberation. In the following years, however, the Chinese people and the progressives who were tempered in the heat of the Revolution continued searching for a way to save the country and the people. With the salvoes of Russia\u2019s October Revolution in 1917, Marxism-Leninism was brought to China, sparking a great awakening among the Chinese people. In the course of integrating Marxism-Leninism with the Chinese workers\u2019 movement, the Communist Party of China was born. On the day of its founding, the CPC made seeking happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation its aspiration and mission, thus lighting a beacon of hope for the cause of national rejuvenation.<\/span>

\n\u4e2d\u56fd\u5171\u4ea7\u515a\u4eba\u662f\u5b59\u4e2d\u5c71\u5148\u751f\u9769\u547d\u4e8b\u4e1a\u6700\u575a\u5b9a\u7684\u652f\u6301\u8005\u3001\u6700\u5fe0\u8bda\u7684\u5408\u4f5c\u8005\u3001\u6700\u5fe0\u5b9e\u7684\u7ee7\u627f\u8005\u3002\u4e2d\u56fd\u5171\u4ea7\u515a\u5728\u6210\u7acb\u4e4b\u521d\u5c31\u63d0\u51fa\u53cd\u5e1d\u53cd\u5c01\u5efa\u7684\u6c11\u4e3b\u9769\u547d\u7eb2\u9886\uff0c\u5e76\u540c\u5b59\u4e2d\u5c71\u5148\u751f\u9886\u5bfc\u7684\u4e2d\u56fd\u56fd\u6c11\u515a\u643a\u624b\u5408\u4f5c\uff0c\u5e2e\u52a9\u56fd\u6c11\u515a\u5b8c\u6210\u6539\u7ec4\uff0c\u5efa\u7acb\u6700\u5e7f\u6cdb\u7684\u9769\u547d\u7edf\u4e00\u6218\u7ebf\uff0c\u6380\u8d77\u8f70\u8f70\u70c8\u70c8\u7684\u5927\u9769\u547d\uff0c\u7ed9\u5317\u6d0b\u519b\u9600\u53cd\u52a8\u7edf\u6cbb\u4ee5\u6c89\u91cd\u6253\u51fb\u3002<\/span>
\nChinese communists were the most steadfast supporters, loyal collaborators, and faithful successors to the revolutionary cause initiated by Dr. Sun Yat-sen. At its founding, the CPC proposed an anti-imperialist and anti-feudal program for democratic revolution and worked together with the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) led by Dr. Sun. It helped the KMT to complete its reorganization and cooperated with it to establish the broadest possible revolutionary united front and to launch the Great Revolution, which dealt a severe blow to the reactionary rule of the Northern Warlords.<\/span>

Dr. Sun Yat-sen once said, \u201cTo restore our nation\u2019s standing, we must first restore our national spirit.\u201d Since the advent of modern times, the Chinese people and nation have promoted a great spirit of patriotism and fought with one heart and mind. Together they have accomplished the heroic feats of resisting foreign aggression, overthrowing reactionary rule, building a country of the people, and advancing reform and opening up. This is determined by the general trend of Chinese history, but more importantly, it is the common will of all Chinese people. As Dr. Sun said, \u201cThe tide of history is mighty. Those who follow it will prosper, while those who go against it will perish.\u201d<\/span>

\nNational reunification by peaceful means best serves the interests of the Chinese nation as a whole, including our compatriots in Taiwan. Those who forget their heritage, betray their motherland, and seek to split the country will come to no good end; they will be disdained by the people and condemned by history. The Taiwan question is purely an internal matter for China, one which brooks no external interference. No one should underestimate the resolve, the will, and the ability of the Chinese people to defend our national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
